,InHabit is our new offering rooted in a creative and evolutionary eco-therapeutic and eco-somatic cosmology. Inhabit means ‘to live in or occupy’. Sometimes this refers to a place or habitat. Yet this verb is also a birthright of body and consciousness. All animals fully inhabit their being in coherence with their environment and all other life forms. We (western culture) humans are the only beings to vacate and mistrust our animal body and our evolutionary wisdom, and often for good reason.  Yet beneath our socializations, traumas, attachment fracturing, emotional wounding, and system contractions, something is waiting for us to remember and return.

That which we and our clients are seeking... relief, stillness, coherence, presence, deep knowing, strength, healthy relationships, authenticity... is our natural condition and already exists underneath all the protective strategies and fragmentations.

In InHabit, we not only address the fragmentations, protective strategies, and facilitate 'healing' of childhood wounds. We also:
  • Activate powers and capacities left dormant in development
  • Remember, through embodiment, the intuition and stillness beneath protections
  • Inhabit evolutionary, human, and ecological wholeness. Well, at least we begin to.

To some, this may all sound a bit 'woo'. But the woo is true. If you feel called to be an edge-walker in the therapy world, join us in any of the eco-somatic on-line sessions or for the summer training.

Ecotherapy is not another technique like EMDR, DBR, CPT, IFS, etc... It is an inhabitation. It is a worldview. If embodied, it is an expression of our original functioning and nature. It is the ground underneath wholistic therapy.

Because of this, Ecotherapy learning cannot be achieved or accomplished. One cannot become really competent in applying ecotherapy in any single training - from Colorado Ecotherapy Institute or anywhere else. Yes, there are some theories, skills, ethics and practices any practitioner should learn. Yet it is really the therapist's integration of various approaches and the journey to an embodied remembering of one's connection to, inhabitation of, and responsibility for Earth and our Kin that grows confidence and competency over time... over the course of your life and career.

This training is home-grown; professional but not clinical; casual but not lazy; deep but not dry; fun but not frivolous. InHabit is a high-quality beginning or continuation of learning and exploring for ecotherapy seekers. It offers practical and unique teachings and experiments for yourself and clients. This workshop can be useful for helpers working in outpatient and traditional therapy settings with individuals or groups in urban, suburban, park, and front-country locations.

You will receive an Ecotherapy Certificate for 32 hours upon completion of the training.*  If you continue to do additional consultation hours within 3 months of the training, you will receive a certificate for the cumulative hours. Consultations may include applications to specific clients or outdoor spaces, review of more nature and (eco)somatic experiments, and/or nature mentoring to deepen your own knowledge of, connection to, or inhabitation of nature.

*We are not approved through any board for formal continuing education hours. But you can submit the certificate and content information to your board for them to approve.

The in-person portion of the workshop will be split between our ranch on Lookout Mountain in Golden, Colorado, and a local natural area approximately 10 minutes from our ranch. We have access to our cabin, forested land, horses, and wildlife.

Our land and neighborhood are welcoming and home to human and more-than-human inhabitants. The dominant presence of beautiful Douglas-Fir trees creates the ecology for mule deer, elk, fox, nuthatches, goldfinches, Steller's jays, coyote, great-horned owls, sharp-shinned hawks, red-tail hawks and many others to thrive. Come visit, engage, and learn from them!

"Stepping into the world of ecotherapy with Kimberly was a place of wonder and connection that filled my soul and inspired my mind. Kimberly embodies the methods she teaches; her expressions of presence and groundedness reveal pathways into the raw truth of being. I left the training in greater contact with my intuition, and I am equipped with resources and interventions that support following it, for myself and my work as a clinician". – Holly M., CO therapist

"I looked for this training because I wanted to know on a practical level how to tap into the natural state of my/our beings as we learn to relate to others and the world around us. Now I have an intimate understanding of how to do this with myself and clients. This training was a coming home to my natural, connected self. I learned concrete tools through experiential learning outside, and integrating the learning via writing and processing everything together with Kimberly in a variety of beautiful outdoor and indoor settings. She is a powerful gentle force that has inspired me in so many ways in my work and life. After less than a week I’ve been able to use the eco therapy experiments and concepts in sessions with clients, even over telehealth. It has created a radical shift in the ways that I see things and my work with clients and I highly recommend investing in this training, regardless of your prior experience with the natural world." -Jennifer H., New York therapist

"Attending Kimberly’s Ecotherapy training was a calling I am so glad I listened to. Immersed in nature and attunement- we learned, unlearned, slowed down, and were invited to remember what we already know. I left with the gift of my senses heightened, instinct in tune, and applications that have already been a hit with my clients." – Sara C., CO therapist

"What impacted me most was the emphasis on being, here and now. I learned how to be present in nature, then how to be present with Self in an embodied way. This shift in being is a lesson I will carry with me as I embark on a career as a soulful mental health counselor." -Ann E., CO therapist
